We're told so often to "take a chance". Take a chance on love. Take a chance on people. Take a chance on your future. Though before allll of that, what about the person staring back at you?
What about yourself?
Many of us have a tendency to base our decisions on others. Asking multiple people for advice, as we slowly muddle the feelings deep within our gut. We convince ourselves to take risks, but only considering how it is perceived in others' eyes. This year in particular, I've become aware of just how damaging this habit is. To always be willing to take chances that don't involve my full heart.
Because at the end of the day, your heart is the only one beating inside your chest. You are the only one who is going to feel the weight of disappointment in your chest. The rush of excitement pulsing through your veins. Only you can fully experience the repercussions of every choice you make.
So, what do you want to feel? The confusion of trying to convince yourself to feel good about something? Or the comfort in feeling absolute and certain you are doing what's right for you?
I say take a chance on yourself.
As my former professor would say "HAVE SOME FAITH IN YOURSELF FOR CRYING OUT LOUD". Start believing that your feelings are valid and legitimate. Stop diluting your resolve by overwhelming yourself with opinions. You don't need a sign-off from everyone including the cashier (Buy that dress honey and work it). Give yourself permission to be happy. What you feel is good enough. Stop doubting your ability to make the right choices for your life. Because the more you continue to do so, the more stagnant you'll become. Fear will seep in and start to restrict your ability to move forward.
Take a chance on yourself.
I've been trying and it really is making a world of difference. I've dropped the facade and simply started being who I want to be. Wearing what I want. Living how I want. Making time for things I want. Saying no to things that don't bring value to my life. It's a freeing feeling, and I'm far from being where I want to be. However, I never would have started experiencing the results without trying.
Wherever you are in your life, take a deep breath and silence the world around you for a little. I wholeheartedly believe in getting support and guidance, but at some point, you have to make the choice yourself. Think about what you want and whatever that is, do it. You are allowed to grow into the person you want to be.
You have one life to live.
And you owe it to yourself to live it how you want.
Sincerely,
Shelbs
